To every single one of you that has come across this post, and have either read and or signed. THANK YOU! Our 2nd hearing took place, (after the first was rescheduled due to an ASL interpreter not being present for the defendant), The judge saw in favor of us and awarded what we were asking for, the medical bills for Cyris and cremation bills for Aysia. Now we await the payment process from the defendant. I spoke to the owner of the pitbulls face to face, and while hurt and angry, he was extremely apologetic about the whole situation, and had no idea what happened that day. He continued to assure my wife and I he would do his best to pay us asap. I asked him a final question before we left the court room. "Do you still have the pitbull that got away?" He nodded yes, and that Animal Care Services, has approved and explained the restrictions that animal must maintain to remain at that household. To recap, the pitbull that killed Aysia got away after being struck by a shovel at the time of the incident. ACS placed the dog under a level 3 aggressive animal list, essentially the last straw. While I don't feel 110% comfortable with that animal a few houses over, I still feel ACS should have a better handle on things. As promised, I will continue to push the ACS director to review and revise their practices and maybe one day, aim more towards registering potentially aggressive breeds, to help with avoiding possible future attacks, I will keep you all updated! Thank you all again!
