Firstly, let me extend a resounding thank you for signing on and supporting! This is a cause to which I feel deeply committed. I won’t be posting many updates here, so please read to the end of this one.
I am an experienced homeschool educator and, simultaneously, a strong supporter of public education. Homeschooling my daughter taught me that a one-size-fits-all approach leaves many people out. What works for some doesn’t necessarily work for all. The hundreds and hundreds of you who have signed on let me know there are others who feel virtual learning would be best for their children.
I believe that, as a friend and public educator recently posted, “children deserve to learn in the least restrictive environment possible.” Sometimes, that means learning virtually. There are a variety of reasons why virtual learning may be ideal; and now in these unprecedented times, failing to at least make it an option is nothing short of negligent.
While advocating at my local district level where my daughter is now enrolled (a successful pursuit, I might add!), I discovered this gap in services, mostly affecting our youngest students. I cannot stand idly by knowing this. Please continue fighting this gross injustice with me. Regardless of your individual COVID stance, we can all agree that this should be an available option to those students and families who need it.
Please keep spreading the word. We have nearly 400 signatures and the petition isn’t even 48 hours old yet. If each of you shared the petition with a personalized note attached, we could make this spread like wild fire. Most of the signers, at this point, are within two hours of my home.
Let’s share and urge others to do the same. Please follow up with each person who shares and comments on your posts. Doing so will move this message further and engage Kentuckians all over the state. This is a statewide issue in need of a statewide solution. Our children and families need this.
Let’s turn those hundreds and hundreds of signatures into thousands and thousands.
Talk soon. Thank you millions!
