The right to raise chickens

The right to raise chickens
The Issue
Hello, my name is Eva Majus and I come to you with hopes of change in these fearful times. With Covid-19 causing closures, quarantine and uncertainties, I've watched food prices slowly rise and products disappear off the shelves. I began to worry about what might happen when there's a shortage of supplies again, or a drastic rise in price, or worse a complete lock down if numbers begin to rise. I realized I needed to safeguard my family's well being. My husband, our 2 children and I began to prepare for what we fear will be a second stronger wave of sickness and quarantine. Two months ago we decided to invest our time and money into creating an all organic vegetable garden containing over 15 varieties of produce. We raised chickens for egg laying and later, of course, for meat. We consider these things to be the very resources for our survival. I thought I had done my research, I thought I was doing everything right. I live in the Town of Tonawanda but when I researched owning chickens I mistakenly looked up the wrong part of Tonawanda. I found that out the hard way yesterday when an unknown neighbor filed a complaint. The Town of Tonawanda has ordered us to have our chickens, our source of food, removed from the property within one week. The notification we got in the mail was also sent to our rental company and at this point I fear we may be threatened with an eviction. Please help me spread the word of the importance of being self sufficient, every family should have the right to provide for their family. These codes need to be changed during these times.
