Stop breed specific discrimination

The Issue

Ever lived in a place and been asked to leave because you own a Pit bull? Ever been denied a place to live because of your Rottweiler? Fluffy and spot get to suffer in shelters across the United States because of discriminatory breed laws. THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE. Insurance companies don't cover fluffy and spot because they are large breed dogs and yet the same rules are not applied to aggressive small breed dogs. I dream of a time when I get to keep my dog without fear of him having to go to a shelter, simply because of his breed. Aggressive dogs are a problem, singular breeds are not.

In 2015-2016 NYS proposed Senate Bill S5944A which would prohibit public housing from discriminating against ownership of dogs based on the dogs size, breed or weight.  It would only allow housing to restrict the ownership of "dangerous dogs" or the right to restrict having a dog on the premises at all. It didn't catch enough momentum, and I want to change that. In fact, I WANT TO SEE THIS GO ONE STEP FURTHER. I want to see all housing in NY that allows me to keep my freedom of choice when it comes to owning a dog. I want to enjoy my mushy American Staffordshire Terrier who loves all people and animals, without fear of persecution because he is a "pit bull". I want to see more people enjoying their nanny dogs without living in fear that they won't have a home or that they will have to drop their beloved family pet off at a shelter, to be left to sit without a home or WORSE, be euthanized because of a ridiculous breed stigma.
