Adventureland Long Island has been serving the tristate/LI region for close to 60 years. They have not been supported by New York State's Governor, Senator, and LI County Executives to advocate for them to open for their 2020 season. In fact, they were mislead that they would be allowed to open in the announcement of Phase 4 businesses to open and have been left in the dark without any communication about their opening status. Small businesses like this rely on their seasons even if they are just a few months. By them not being allowed to open and having the lack of advocacy by our leaders; will put their longevity at risk to thrive and force more of their dedicated staff to be placed on long term unemployment. Our state/county leaders have let locations like public beaches, pools, parks, entertainment parks with bumper cars/boats, go-karts, carousels, sky trail attractions, etc along with petting zoo's/zoo's, aquariums, malls, outdoor/indoor mini golf, and now are being more focused on allowing bowling alleys to open. How can these locations with less staff and lacking enforcement of PPE and social distancing regulations be allowed to be operational over a small amusement park who can provide more than adequate staffing levels and ensure their protocols are being met? How can parks only a few hours away like Lake Compounce in Connecticut and Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey be allowed to open, but a smaller park can't? This is extremely contradictory as Adventureland has justified to the Governor of their potential safety/social distancing measures in the event they can open back in early May. This is completely unjust to our small businesses on the island that have been bringing entertainment and joy for all these years to our families/residents. It's time to make our leaders recognize, do their job to advocate, present consistency and help Adventureland Long Island salvage a 2020 season and sustain their future.
