A Constitutional Convention to Fix the Inherent Racism Embedded In It

A Constitutional Convention to Fix the Inherent Racism Embedded In It
The Issue
The US Constitution is the direct law of the land, it governs and affects us in every aspect of our daily lives. Our constitution was formed over 200 years ago; during that time African Americans were held as slaves, Native Americans were being slaughtered, and women along with the LGBTQ+ had no rights to protect themselves. Since 1788 when the constitution was ratified, nothing has progressed pertaining to racial, economic, and gender equality that this country was "built" to promote and provide for everyone.
The systemic racism in this country has been able to continue without serious repercussions because the laws within the constitution allow for it, ex. the 2nd, 13th, and parts of the 4th amendments. The countless lives ruined by institutional racism in America must end, it is not fair that people of color must struggle to attain a fraction of success that our white counterparts were simply handed because of the deliberate inequity in our country. African Americans, Native Americans, Women, and the LGBTQ+ community need to have explicit rights under the constitution that can truly protect them. By keeping such laws, citizens are shown that there is no true liberation in “the land of the free'', to truly be a land of liberation we must address and rectify the deep-rooted problems in our society.
The posterity of this nation depends on our leaders and citizens being courageous to fight against and rectify the heinous injustices that many have endured. Nothing will change in this country if we do not fix the laws that govern us; it is imperative for us to acknowledge, understand, and empathize with others to truly invoke change in this nation.
