The Issue

Developers are threatening minority small businesses in Anderson, SC

 


Developers have started the process to rezone the area along Highway 187, Fants Grove Rd, Burns Bridge Rd as well as William Walker Road. They plan on using the 142 acres of land to build a multi-phase development zone that will crush these small businesses within the next 5-7 years if this passes. 

 


Their plans are to build single family homes as well as townhomes in this space, but also adding in commercial business space. They plan on adding more homes into this space if there is ‘a demand.’  435 Residential lots/units and up to 20 acres of commercial space.

 


During their planning they will be adding a lot of pressure on to Highway 187 which would lead to road construction in order to ‘widen’ the roads to be able to take the traffic they’re planning on bringing to the area. As we all know long periods of construction hurt big businesses, but cripple small minority own businesses. 

 


Not only will this hurt the local businesses along Highway187 and the surrounding areas, but it will also hurt the local home owners, and church community as well. Heavier traffic to single lane roads during construction would mean longer commutes to and from work. It would put pressure on local manufacturing plants and the local high school. It will also increase the need for more public servants and first responders police, fire, EMS, etc. 

 

 

 

We’re asking you to sign this petition to halt their current progress so the community can communicate with the developers to create a space that helps these businesses instead of harming them.
