Minneapolis Middle School students and parents for Sports in Middle Schools
12 Jun 2017
Minneapolis Public Schools is meeting tomorrow at 5:30 P.M. 1250 W Broadway Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55411 Phone: (612) 668-0000 for public comment time and then the regular board meeting begins. Please come and let your voice be heard and show a presence. Several parents are planning to be present with their students/Athletes as well as on the agenda to speak. Minneapolis Public School needs to find funding and should be doing outreach to find funding like going to the City of Minneapolis and the many professional sports teams, owners and foundations that understand the value of sports in engaging youth and fostering and developing better adults that are productive, graduate and participate in life. This is a district problem to solve and no one neighborhood or booster club, although great for that particular neighborhood, does not solve the looming issues this implies with inclusion, Title #9, ESL and other affected groups that do not have the resources or opportunity that all should receive from the Minneapolis Public Schools. Who would they play? LET THEM ALL PLAY! Please stand together to let MPS know that priority needs to be put on engaging Middle School aged students where they are to offer something that will keep them in school and help make our schools stronger for it with organized Sports. It should not be the problem of the parents and the students. It is a shared role and Athletics should be exploring all options and asking the City of Minneapolis where we enjoy a brand new stadium and pay tax for several years in participation dollars to fund future MPS athletes and graduates. This City has wealth especially with sports. The $500,00 per year for 7 sports in all 19 middle schools is nothing to these organizations in comparison to their goals. The good publicity and stock alone would pay for itself in helping "Save middle school sports" for the future of the engagement and viability of MPS. Tell your friends and please spread the word. Minneapolis needs strong public schools and part of that is activities and sports for all! Minneapolis students of all ages need you to speak up and show your support. The time is NOW!Thank you!
