Dear Supporters,
We’re thrilled to share some wonderful news about Mrs. Theodora Smiley Lacey’s ongoing journey of recognition and impact, thanks to your continued support!
In May, Mrs. Lacey was honored with the prestigious Clara Lemlich Award for Social Activism at the Museum of the City of New York, celebrating her lifetime of advocacy and dedication to social justice. More recently, on September 25th, Fairleigh Dickinson University awarded Mrs. Lacey an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters, recognizing her significant contributions to civil rights and community service.
We're also excited to announce that "A Life of Service: The Theodora Smiley Portrait" will be will be displayed at The Newark Museum of Art during the Newark Arts Festival from October 9th through December 1st, as part of the festival’s signature exhibition, “Radical Reimagining.” This is an incredible opportunity to share her story and legacy with a broader audience.
Looking forward to 2025, our goal is to have this portrait exhibited at a curated selection of "essential tour stops." This includes prestigious museums, HBCUs, and universities across the country, whose programs in social sciences, humanities, and community service will deepen the reach of Mrs. Lacey's story into diverse academic environments. Rooted in civil rights, African American history, and cultural education, these institutions provide an authentic and powerful backdrop for the tour.
We need your help to make this happen! Please take a moment to share this petition with your network and invite others to join our movement. Your voice can amplify Mrs. Lacey’s story and help bring her legacy to even more people.
Share the Petition with your friends and family, to ensure we reach as many people as possible.
Thank you for your support!
