Petition to recognise the People’s Republic of China as a rogue state

The Issue

There is little doubt by now that the Communist Party of China is the most dangerous and most powerful force against democracy and freedom in the 21st century. Its crimes are uncountable, its transgressions deliberate and unrepentant and most importantly, ongoing. It is the mark of a particularly irredeemable regime that the Uyghur genocide seems almost but a footnote compared to all the culminative evils of its bloated lifetime:

From the Great Leap Forwards and the Cultural Revolution to the One Child Policy with its infanticides, forced sterilisations and forced abortions; from the invasion of Tibet and abduction of the 6-year-old Panchen Lama and his whole family, to the ongoing genocide in Xinjiang; from the Tiananmen massacre to the HK protests, with its dehumanising propaganda of protesters and slow corrosion of the shared consensus of reality using shameless disinformation, to the systemic harassment and hacking of overseas activists and their families; from the enabling of the genocidal Khmer Rouge to the financing and protection of the DPRK, two of the most abhorrent and reprehensible regimes in all human history; and perhaps most urgently and worryingly, its warmongering rhetoric, threats and illegal incursions against Taiwan, which seem to keep escalating week by week, and which even a blind man can see could lead to a repeat of the grand tragedies of the 20th century.

These events paint a picture of a grand, well-oiled machine of bureaucratic, self-justified, self-righteous oppression. The above list would keep expanding without significant change from internal or external interference. Seeing how the economy and political influence of the PRC shows little sign of halting, it is not unreasonable to believe that each and every one of us would have to make a decision sooner or later, which side of history we would like to be remembered standing on.

As such, an important step in countering the CCP would be to strike them where it hurts: economic and political influence. By recognising the PRC under the CCP’s rule as a rogue state, this would both undermine their international standing and hinder corporations from doing business with them.
