The day has finally come, us supporters have won. If you have not seen the news this evening majority owners Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan have agreed to sell their shares in the club, as reported by The Athletic. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5906617/2024/11/07/swansea-city-sale-kaplan-levien/
Their arrival in summer 2016 came full of promises of taking us to the next level on and off the pitch. To say the least their plans if they even had any certainly did not go to plan. 8 years has followed with anything and everything they’ve been involved with turning to shit.
From Bob Bradley, to Paul Watson their tenure has been a farce full of incompetence. Relegation from the Premier League, constant under backing of managers with no long term recruitment strategy. 8 years of going round in circles, while at times on the pitch there has been promise, the ineptitude off the pitch has always dragged us down. To the realities of ownership under Jason Levien.
Through it all the fans have remained, united as ever in support of the football club. From protests through the streets of Swansea, chanting in the stands, voicing our anger at fan forums, fan articles and magazines as well as general discontent online. This petition alone with 3,500 signatures stating very clearly the fans discontent and desire for a change of owners.
Us Swans fans have finally got what we have been asking for, for a long long time.
With that article comes a statement from our chairman and new majority owner Andy Coleman. Calling for the club as a whole to “move on” from the previous owners.
For me this says everything we need to know about Coleman’s feelings towards the two leaving tonight, and their neglect of the football club.
But he’s absolutely right, it’s time to celebrate and get fully behind Andy Coleman and the club, free from the past.
This positive news off the field conveniently combining with our recent positive performances and results on the pitch. This news can only be a good thing for Luke Williams our manager who we are and should be getting right behind.
It’s time to give Andy Coleman and those now running the club time to show how they will be different to those before them. Us fans deserve this news tonight, the club as a whole deserves a chance under new ownership.
Tonight us supporters, the lifeblood behind the football club declare victory against two men who were only ever interested in one thing to do with Swansea City and that’s money. No interest, no ambition and no investment.
A new chapter for Swansea City football club begins tonight, one that can only be better than the last.
As Andy Coleman put it, it’s time to move on.
