Why this petition matters

Started by shira ovide

We believe that every American with a conscience will be indignant about the recent tragedy. Minneapolis tens of thousands of people took to the streets to protest the cruel killing of George Freud by a white police officer. We have long known that the situation of African Americans has become increasingly dangerous.

We were taught to pay attention to etiquette when we talked to white people since we were young, but we have seen time and time again that black men who were raised with their hands surrendered to the defenseless were shot by police. We saw the police continue to play the role of a killer. The suffering we have suffered is disproportionate. More and more black parents have come to a judgmental conclusion: doing the right thing may not be correct.

We must fight those who stand with us, otherwise the young black people must endure rubber bullets or tear gas. The government has abandoned us. We will die in vain. The perpetrator lacks punishment, and we must respond to it.

Here, we make five major demands to ensure that the federal government must meet.

Demand immediate arrest of the remaining 3 officers involved in George Floyd’s murder.

Demand appointment of an independent special prosecutor to lead the federal government’s full and impartial investigation of the murder of George Floyd.

Demand to dismiss all charges with marchers.

Demand reinstitution by the Department of Justice of consent decrees on police departments and municipal governments across this country that have demonstrated patterns of racism towards and mistreatment of people of color.

Demand sweeping police reform–federal legislation mandating a zero-tolerance approach in penalizing and/or prosecuting police officers who kill unarmed, non-violent, and non-resisting individuals in an arrest.
