Stopping Processing Transactions for Cyberstalking Apps

Stopping Processing Transactions for Cyberstalking Apps
The Issue
Technology continues to open new doors and avenues of communication, commerce, and creativity. With the proliferation of cell phones and high speed mobile broadband, we are able to talk with friends and family a world away; trade and pay for goods and services with the touch of the finger; and create and build things we would never have thought possible.
However, with these strides we have also opened new and frightening means for abuse. Several individuals and groups have taken it upon themselves to develop technology for malice. These developers have appropriated and built technology to incite, enable, and perpetuate violence against women and children. These applications are installed clandestinely and without consent and used to secretly monitor, track, and spy on victims.
Recently, one such individual, the CEO of software developer StealthGenie, was indicted for his participation in the development and market of software used to precipitate domestic violence. However, as noted by Cindy Southworth from the National Network to End Domestic Violence, on PopSci.com, this is only one of hundreds of similar applications.
Given the realities of the justice system and the grinding speed at which it functions, I believe the most efficient way to stop the distribution and development of these applications is through economics. Paypal, Mastercard, Visa, and American Express are often listed as acceptable forms of payment on these websites, emblazoned with their corporate logos. Join me in the call to have Paypal, Mastercard, Visa, and American Express to stop processing transactions and to terminate any and all relationships with these vile companies.
Paypal, Mastercard, Visa, Discover, and American Express you all have the ability to fulfill an ethical obligation to end domestic violence. Do not hesitate or falter in your duty. Stand with the victims!
