Amendment to Raise the Legal Limits of Medical Cannabis Homegrow in Illinois

Amendment to Raise the Legal Limits of Medical Cannabis Homegrow in Illinois
The Issue
As a medical cannabis patient, my life went through a drastic transformation when I was introduced to homegrown cannabis for my painful sleeplessness, a condition marked by sudden night awakenings followed by severe paranoia. It was not until I began growing my own cannabis that I managed to make a concoction tailored to my particular needs, thus liberating me from the tormenting condition that had plagued me for long. Subsequently, my dog began experiencing anxiety complications, so I decided to grow CBD for her, and today, it's an essential part of her regular treats. However, Illinois's current homegrow limit for medical cannabis is impeding our ability for self-care.
Statistics show that more than 31% of American adults experience some form of anxiety disorder at some point in their lives (source: American Psychological Association), and a similar percentage suffer from sleep disorders (source: American Sleep Association). Cannabis, especially when grown at home to meet personal medical needs, not only provides relief but also adds to the wellbeing of both humans and pets.
Since growing my dog’s CBD, I’ve not been able to grow enough of my medication to fulfill my needs. Many patients have found that the 5 plant limitation has greatly reduced the full potential that cannabis can be used and also does not account for crop loss. When bugs, deficiencies, and gender cause a plant to be considered useless, then home growers are left in a tight spot. The time and money that was put into personal growing is lost when patients run into these issues.
Considering the evident therapeutic benefits I and many others have come across through personal experiences, I appeal for an amendment to raise the legal limits of medical Cannabis homegrow in Illinois. This change won't just improve the lives of countless patients and their pets, but would also lessen the pressure on healthcare systems. Your signature is a step forward towards this positive change.
