Amend the Sexist and Bias Dress Code at Eastmont High School

The Issue

I am a student at Eastmont High School (EHS), and as a student here, I have continuously witnessed the distress and frustration faced by female students over the current dress code regulations. The policies focus solely on the wardrobe of female students which is heavily biased and sexist. Girls are often penalized for their clothing choices, raising concerns about showing their shoulders, stomachs, or legs. The claim is that these outfits act as distractions within the educational environment – an argument fundamentally rooted in sexism.

The dress code not only affects the daily routines of girls at school, but extends to events like dances and yearbook pictures. These are supposed to be joyful and memorable, but instead are causing stress over what the girls can wear without violating the code. Our school should be a place for growth and learning, not a place of stress and anxiety.

Moreover, it's essential to recognize the mental health impact of such unrealistic restrictions. This dress code subliminally shames female bodies and distracts girls more than it does anyone else, causing unnecessary mental distress.

The most appalling fact is that EHS dress code is not primarily directed towards males. This glaring double standard perpetuates harmful stereotypes that distract from the ultimate goal of any educational institution - education itself.

The time to take action is now. Support fairness, equal treatment, and mental well-being in schools. Demand the administration at Eastmont High School to revise this outdated dress code policy, in favor of one that respects all students equally. Let us proudly express ourselves without the fear of reprisal or judgement from others. Please sign this petition to show your support for an amended dress code at EHS. Your signature can make a difference.
