The Issue

My son, a hardworking and kind-hearted 24-year-old, lost his life tragically in a workplace accident. He was welding when a steel skid fell off a skid steer onto him, crushing him. As he did not have a spouse or child, we found ourselves powerless to hold the company accountable for their gross negligence under current Texas law.

This antiquated law states that only an employee's children or spouse can hold a company accountable for gross negligence in the event of an accident. It leaves out immediate family members like parents and siblings who are left grieving and seeking justice when their loved ones are unmarried or childless.

Going to work should never be equated with risking one's life due to employer negligence. In 2019 alone, there were 488 fatal occupational injuries in Texas (Bureau of Labor Statistics), many of which could have been prevented with proper safety measures.

We need your help to change this outdated law that protects employers at the expense of employees' lives. Let us ensure that all workers are protected under the law regardless of their marital status or parenthood. We urge you to sign this petition so no other family has to endure what we've been through - losing our beloved son without any means for justice.
