Reckless driving in high-spec cars is a serious issue in the eThekwini Municipality. Vehicles without number plates are often used in criminal activities, contributing to the daily lawlessness we see on our roads. The current penalties for traffic violations are insufficient and ineffective, even if perpetrators are caught. We urgently need to amend the eThekwini bylaws to impose stricter penalties, similar to the 2021 amendments in Cape Town that allow the vehciles to be impounded untill the mater is finaliased in court..

By signing this petition, you agree that stricter penalties should be enforced, and that Metro Police must impound vehicles.. This should apply to offenses such as:

• Reckless driving, street racing, or driving under the influence, resulting in arrest without the option of a fine until a court proceedings are complete
• Illegal vehicle modifications.
• Missing number plates.
• Public transport vehicles that are unroadworthy or unlicensed.
• Unlicensed vehicles or those with expired license discs more than 90 days old.
• Failing to stop when ordered by law enforcement
