Amend Anti-Doping Regulations For Fair Usage Of Testosterone Therapy

Amend Anti-Doping Regulations For Fair Usage Of Testosterone Therapy
The Issue
As an athlete over 60, I intimately understand the vital role that testosterone plays in overall health. For women like me, suffering from low testosterone can lead to an array of health issues that can deter us from performing at our best.
Currently, the regulations set forth by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), support the use of exogenous testosterone for male athletes, given they have a therapeutic need. Conversely, this right is unjustly withheld from female athletes, inhibiting us from safeguarding our health.
It is essential to recognize that testosterone is not exclusive to males; females naturally produce it as well. When a deficiency arises, it is only fair that female athletes be provided the same opportunity to apply for Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUEs) as their male counterparts.
Denying this jeopardizes not only our participation in sport, but also our health. Studies have consistently shown that testosterone aids in brain function, bone density, and muscle health, vital aspects for competing athletes.
A change in these regulations would ensure a level playing field where male and female athletes are judged by their abilities and not hindered by a lack of access to necessary medical interventions.
Furthermore, this change acknowledges gender equality and respects the physiological differences across sexes without bias. We call upon the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), to revise their regulations concerning testosterone therapy. By doing so, they will not only empower female athletes but also pioneer a fairer, more inclusive future for sports. Male and female athletes alike deserve health equality and the fair treatment necessary to excel in their sports careers.
Please join in supporting this significant change in sports regulations. Your signature can help establish medical fairness and equal rights for all athletes, irrespective of gender.
