We live in a very dangerous time right now. Even in the United States there are efforts to silence media, thought-leaders, writers, etc. No person should be subject to harm, intimidation, flogging, threats or imprisonment just because they advocate for a new way of thinking or hold a view different from one's own. Oftentimes, the thought-leaders are the ones who see things differently from conventional wisdom and change the world in the process. These people should be honored and celebrated for their courage, not chastised or condemned. Waleed Abu al-Khair has not only fought relentlessly for human rights in Saudi Arabia but he has sacrificed his own liberty in order to secure a better future for all Saudis.
