This is the kind of studio logic that makes fans want to bang their heads against the gate room wall.

Canceling a Stargate show because it might “only” appeal to the dedicated Stargate fanbase is absurd. That isn't a problem, it's a foundation.

Stargate already has the thing most new shows would kill for: decades of loyalty, a built-in mythology, recognizable branding, and fans who have been begging for a serious return.

The idea that a franchise revival must immediately appeal to everyone on Earth before it is allowed to exist is exactly how studios end up making bland, flavorless content that appeals passionately to no one. You do not grow a franchise by insulting or sidelining the people who kept it alive. You start with the core audience, respect the world, tell a great story, and let that passion spread.

What makes this even more ridiculous is that Stargate was never some tiny niche property. SG-1 ran for ten seasons. Atlantis ran for five. The franchise had movies, spinoffs, conventions, novels, games, and a fanbase that never went away. If Amazon cannot see the value in that, the problem is not Stargate’s appeal. The problem is Amazon executives who never understood Stargate.

But we can save the gate...

It is up to us to convince executives at Amazon that creating a new show will have very little financial risk because the fandom is financially, emotionally and socially ready to support any new project that holds true to the canon of the franchise while harnessing the talent of show creator Martin Gero and to bring a new version of the show to today's audiences. 

The Science Fiction community needs rich and diverse platforms to continue the success of the genre. Stargate represents tradition and success in Science Fiction and should be one of the flagship shows trailblazing a path into our new streaming age.
