Dear Plastic-Free Petitioners:
First of all, I hope you are all safe and sound and adjusting to our new normal at home. For those of you facing hardship or loss due to Covid, my heart goes out to you. It's been an adjustment here as well with two kids at home and their father teaching science classes remotely but we are also enjoying the slower pace and more time as a family.
Many of us have had to do more online ordering to secure needed provisions while stores are closed and we are sure you are feeling the guilt and frustration of the packaging adding up. We hope this bit of good news gives you some hope and a little light at the start of this week. It's not your fault, choices are limited, and we want to help do something about it. As doorfront becomes the new storefront, we want the online experience to evolve to meet consumer demand for less plastic online.
With that in mind, I am delighted to share that we have secured the support of the world's largest ocean nonprofit, Oceana, as the official nonprofit partner in this movement to make plastic-free choice at online checkout the new norm! After much deliberation over the last several weeks as to what next steps should be, this was both a natural and strategic next step. We need our voices to be heard loud and clear and the greater our numbers, the faster we will achieve our goal.
While I will continue on the front lines to drive the petition forward, Oceana's incredible team of environmentalists, scientists, researchers and activists will join us in making our wish for plastic-free checkout choices a reality. Oceana's solid record of victories gives me added hope and confidence that we will indeed have the right to decide what comes into our homes when we order online in the not-too-distant future.
We will circle back with updates and next steps very shortly as we will indeed need your help to realize this change. In the meantime, please share out the petition as more people than ever are drowning in unwanted plastic shipping waste.
Thank you for getting this movement started. You have my commitment, and now Oceana's (!) to see it through to completion.
