Date: July 18th, 2021
Hello Ms. Collucci,
I am forwarding a petition requesting the City of Markham to add a fenced, off-leash area for the growing numbers of dogs in our Ward 6 neighborhood.
Since we launched our petition on Wednesday, July 14th, 2021, it has been signed by nearly 300 (and growing) residents in the area.
Due to the pandemic, we have seen a huge growth in the numbers of dogs in our neighborhood. However, we don't have an easily accessible, fenced, safe, leash-free dog park in our neighborhood of Markham. Apart from the Miller Avenue Off-Leash Dog Park and Cornell Community Dog Park, most of the dog parks are too far and too crowded.
We now need a new fenced off-leash dog park in Markham near Berczy Park where our furry family members can safely play and socialize.
We have enough parks in Markham and more than enough space in the neighborhood to designate one area as a fenced, leash-free, dog park where our dogs can play safely.
We have three (including one fenced) soccer fields, two tennis courts in Berczy Park North and one baseball field, two tennis courts and one soccer field in Berczy Park South. Besides these fields, there are several open areas in and around Berczy Park including several parkettes. These areas are used for only a few months in the year but a dog park would be used the whole year as our pets (and their parents) need daily exercises.
Our petition is very feasible and will be welcomed by both the growing community of dog-owners and dog-lovers in the neighborhood and also the non-dog owners as they go about enjoying their out-doors activities.
Our petition is a win-win for both dog owners and non-owners.
We appreciate it if you could kindly study our petition and give it the serious consideration that it deserves.
Please contact me at your convenience if you require any further information.
Thanks & regards,
