Bass fishing is a hobby that brings joy and relaxation to many. The current restriction on bass fishing in Poole Harbour from boats between April and November is unnecessarily harsh, and does not consider those who only practise catch and release. Catch and release is a sustainable practice that allows us to enjoy fishing while protecting bass stocks, as studies show that correctly released fish survive.  By amending these regulations, we can allow small boat anglers to enjoy fishing while still safeguarding our marine environment.

The current seasonal ban unfairly targets small boat anglers while allowing shore fishing, creating an inconsistent approach to conservation. A fairer policy should allow responsible catch and release regardless of how anglers access the water.
