We, the undersigned, advocate for the reinstatement of Asna Tabassum's rightful position as valedictorian speaker at the University of Southern California's upcoming graduation ceremony. Asna Tabassum, a Muslim-American scholar, has demonstrated exceptional prowess and exemplary leadership throughout her tenure at USC. However, her commendable achievements have been overshadowed by recent events.

Regrettably, Tabassum has been unjustly deprived of her valedictorian privilege following relentless harassment she endured due to her expression of solidarity with Palestine. 

The decision to revoke Tabassum's valedictorian speech followed pressures exerted by pro-Israel groups on campus. This unfortunate incident not only undermines the principles of academic freedom and diversity but also sets a troubling precedent for the stifling of dissenting voices within academic institutions.

We urge the University of Southern California to uphold its commitment to inclusivity, tolerance, and respect for diverse perspectives by reinstating Asna Tabassum as the valedictorian speaker. By doing so, USC can reaffirm its dedication to fostering a campus environment where all students, regardless of their backgrounds or beliefs, feel valued and supported.
