Allow Teddy, the Service Cat, Back into the Gym

Allow Teddy, the Service Cat, Back into the Gym
The Issue
My name is Jessie, and Teddy is more than just my pet - he is my lifeline. Teddy is a service cat who helps me cope with severe anxiety and personal trauma. This is not just true for me, but for many other members at our local gym. Teddy is not just beloved, but vital to my and others' mental wellness. Teddy was a familiar, comforting presence at our gym for several months, until one day, a single employee deemed him unfit to stay. Despite Teddy being in perfect health, with all vaccinations up to date, and rendering incomparable emotional support, I was told I couldn't bring him anymore. I have never been denied to have him any where else. This has gravely impacted my mental health and overall gym experience. According to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), service animals are allowed anywhere their owners are. Title II and title III of the ADA state that service animals must be allowed to accompany the person with a disability in all areas of the facility where members are usually allowed to go. Although Teddy is an emotional support animal rather than a service animal, he provides the same comfort and support a service animal would, helping me cope with the severe anxiety I suffer from. Teddy isn't just a service cat - he became a part of our gym community. To this day members of Planet Fitness, West Monroe, continuously ask why Teddy isn’t there with me, and employees wish he could could back too. We plead for reason and respect for the law: let Teddy accompany me and spread joy in the gym. Join me in this petition to allow Teddy, the service cat, back into the gym where he truly belongs. Please sign this petition and stand up for the rights of service animals and their owners.
