On a regular school day in Powder Springs, GA, students like myself are denied access to our phones, - a policy that could potentially have serious ramifications. What if there's an emergency and we can't use our phones because they are in our lockers, unreachable and out of sight?

This petition aims to call attention to the restrictive rules that prohibit us, the students, from having our phones during school hours. In the United States, over 75% of teens now own a cell phone, and almost half of them are smartphones, according to the Pew Research Center. In today's digital age, these devices are more than just a means of communication; they are crucial tools for our safety, education, and personal growth.

The use of smartphones in a classroom setting can be a resourceful tool in learning. With the readily available educational apps and resources, cellphones can enrich our learning experiences. Further, in emergency scenarios, having immediate access to our phones can be a lifesaver.

This isn't a call to promote distraction but rather to reform the rules related to cellphone usage in a manner that best serves the safety and educational interest of the students. We understand the potential of misuse, but with proper regulation and guidelines, the advantages of having access to our phones can be harnessed while minimizing possible diversions.
