As a resident of Basildon, I often grapple with feeling comfortable in what I wear due to our limiting dress code. I truly believe that granting us the freedom to don skirts and shorts is not a mere change in policy but an important step to endorse personal comfort and expression. This restriction not only curbs our comfort, but it similarly deprives our freedom to express ourselves unique to our personalities. It is well-documented that when people are allowed to dress in a way that fits their personal style, productivity increases along with morale (The Guardian, 2019). On behalf of the residents of Basildon, I implore the local authorities to revisit the current dress code, updating it to allow skirts and shorts, thus expanding personal freedom and boosting our community's overall morale.
