Allow Short-Term Rentals to Continue Contributing to Wauconda’s Economy and Community

The Issue

As a proud short-term rental owner with a Master's in Public Administration from NIU, I am alarmed by the ordinance set to prohibit all short-term rentals in our charming village of Wauconda, IL effective January 1st, 2025. As a stakeholder in our community, I was taken aback by the lack of public consultation or inclusion of local businesses when this ordinance was passed over two years ago. Notably, many citizens are still unaware this ordinance exists.

I firmly believe in the right to do what we wish with our property, within the confines of the law, and I stand firm in my belief that this ordinance infringes on that right. Short-Term Rentals not only allow family and friends of residents to visit our beautiful village, but they also contribute to our local economy, create jobs, and generate tax revenue.

The untold benefits of short-term rentals extend to providing tourists with a choice of where to stay—adding to the richness of their travel experience and potentially increasing visitor growth. With the threatened inception of a hotel in 2022 and now the prohibition of short-term rentals, it appears that Wauconda's lodging options are dwindling, which can severely hamper our tourism growth.

Speaking as a resident and professional in strategic planning and management, I believe this move is not looking out for all Wauconda citizens. We pride ourselves on our community spirit, the beauty of our village, and the warmth of our welcome. My property and the many like it form an integral part of our village's offering, and I am asking for your support to secure our future.

Let's bring attention to this issue. Stand for Wauconda's community spirit, our economic growth, and our rights as citizens. Sign the petition demanding a reconsideration of the short-term rentals ban in Wauconda, IL.
