Allow shopping vouchers to be used for stage one formula milk

The Issue

My name is Kerry Redmond and I have started this petition to get the Government to allow supermarkets to accept clubcard or nectar point vouchers for formula milk.  In a cost of living crisis, where formula is one of the most expensive items to buy, the possible savings from using these vouchers could be the difference between heating and eating for so many families.

I tried to use clubcard vouchers to buy formula and wasn’t allowed to - I can’t believe that formula isn’t included - it is such an essential item, especially for parents who cannot breastfeed who have no other choice.

The Infant Formula and Follow on Formula regulations were brought in in 2007 to ensure that supermarkets never promote formula over breastfeeding. But in practice, all this means is that women who can’t easily afford formula and those who can’t breastfeed, have to pay more for essential food for their children.

Formula milk  is already extortionately expensive for those who need it. These regulations don’t make sense.

Let’s make sure no babies go without the food they need because their families can’t afford formula.  Clubcard and nectarcard vouchers are one small way we can alleviate the pressures of inflation and make sure no baby goes without. Please join me in calling on supermarkets and the Government to make sure formula is as easy to buy as possible

Kerry Redmond
