Allow riding atvs and motorcycles on private property
The Issue
My name is [Andrew Rabbett], and I'm reaching out to share a personal concern that affects our community deeply. Growing up in [southbridge Massachusetts], I've always valued the importance of outdoor activities for children and adults alike. Our town, however, is facing a significant issue: a lack of designated trails for riding ATVs and dirt bikes, coupled with restrictions on using them on private property. This not only limits our recreational outlets but pulls our youth away from productive and engaging activities.
Currently, many residents, including myself, are receiving noise complaints when we ride our ATVs and dirt bikes on our own private property. It's alarming to think that in a place where community and outdoor activities should flourish, our residents are being penalized for engaging in healthy, adventurous pastimes. For many of us, the sound of a motorcycle revving is the soundtrack of our childhood – representing freedom, joy, and a spirit of adventure.
Moreover, the lack of official trails forces riders into risky situations. Without a safe and legal space to pursue our passions, young individuals might resort to unsupervised areas, which not only poses a safety risk but can also lead to unintended criminal activities. We must provide our youth and community members with opportunities that keep them engaged and active, steering clear of negative influences.
Here's what we're proposing: If our local town council cannot permit riding ATVs and motorcycles on private property without fear of a noise complaint, we request that they support the development of community trails. These trails would not only cater to our recreational needs but can foster a stronger community spirit. With proper trail tags and grooming, maintained by community volunteers, we can ensure the trails stay safe and enjoyable for all.
We urge our local government to consider this petition seriously. By allowing us to ride freely on our property or providing us with designated trails, we can enhance our community's recreational infrastructure and provide an outlet for our youth. Together, we can make a positive change for our community. Please join me in signing this petition to protect our way of life and support our local recreation needs.
