The Issue

As a devoted rabbit owner and frequent traveler, I am deeply concerned about the recent policy change by Westjet that prohibits rabbits from flying in the cabin. This decision has caused immense stress and hardship for not only myself but countless other rabbit owners who rely on air travel to safely transport our beloved pets.

Personal Story:

I have been a proud owner of five rabbits for several years now, and they have become an integral part of my family. Recently, due to personal circumstances, I had to relocate across the country. In such situations, air travel has always been my preferred choice as it allows for a quicker and more efficient journey.

In the past, Westjet's policy allowed rabbits to fly in-cabin under certain conditions. This was a tremendous relief as it ensured that my furry companions could remain close by during the flight, providing them with comfort and security. However, since this policy change took effect, I am now faced with no other option but to transport them via road travel.

Driving long distances can be incredibly stressful for rabbits due to their sensitive nature. The constant vibrations of the vehicle coupled with unfamiliar surroundings can lead to anxiety and potential health issues for these delicate creatures. It is simply inhumane to subject them to such distressing conditions when there is an alternative available.

Supportive Facts:
1) According to reputable veterinary sources such as The House Rabbit Society (rabbit.org), rabbits are highly susceptible to stress-related illnesses which can be triggered by long journeys or being placed under cargo compartments.
2) Numerous airlines around the world still allow small pets like rabbits in-cabin provided they meet specific requirements.
3) Studies have shown that having animals nearby during flights can provide emotional support not only for their owners but also fellow passengers.

Westjet states that rabbits can carry certain diseases and can pass those onto humans. These can be passed on through direct contact, indirect contact or inhalataion of materials, resulting in the transmisssion of these diseases.

House rabbits are not carriers of diseases that can affect humans. In fact, you are much more likely to catch disease from fellow humans than from your household rabbit. Rabbits pose not issues to fellow humans in any manner.

By allowing rabbits back into the cabin during flights, Westjet and Air Canada would not only demonstrate compassion towards these beloved pets but also show a commitment to customer satisfaction. This policy change would greatly benefit rabbit owners who rely on air travel for various reasons, including relocation, vacations, or even emergency situations.

I kindly urge Westjet and Air Canada to reconsider their current policy and reinstate the option for rabbits to fly in-cabin. Let us work together towards a more inclusive and compassionate approach that prioritizes the well-being of our furry friends while ensuring their safe transportation.

Thank you for your attention and consideration.

Sincerely,

Your Fellow Rabbit Lovers
