Another little bit of information about my experiences with North Bay Hospital in New Port Richey, Fl. 1 year after my son died I made an appointment with the then "President" of the hospital. 6 family members accompanied me to the meeting. At this meeting I found out that the hospital president was never informed of my son's death. He was clueless about the events that robbed me of my son and robbed my son of many more years to live his life. Actually, I was quite surprised that he hadn't even bothered to find out who I was or who my son was prior to our meeting. So, apparently, the nursing staff choose not to share the information about my son's case. That would explain why no measures had been instituted to prevent the same mistakes from being repeated. And, that's the problem. The cover-up of errors, poor judgement and negligence leads to no changes being made. Hospitals, their staffs, the doctors need to fear the same mistakes being made over and over again more and fear being subjected to an investigation less. I know some may feel I have lofty goals, but preventing PREVENTABLE deaths is a goal worth fighting for!
