Allow Pagan religions to be taught in all Uk schools as part of religious studies
The Issue
It has come to mine, and many others attentions that our children's paths are not being accepted in our schools. They are being excluded, and made to feel unaccepted because their religions are still not welcomed. My own child has been made to feel like this, and after pleading with the school for over a year, whilst feeling upset and unheard, he is still not allowed to have religious education for his own religion.
Paganism is becoming more and more favourable across the UK, with many people now practicing and following the path. As Norse Pagans ourselves, we are taught to respect other cultures and religions by being accepting and welcoming. Unfortunately, we are not met with the same response, still. We believe that religion is a personal choice, and every child should be given the right to choose freely. We are only asking for equality, so that our children can be accepted too. If religion is being taught in schools, should that not include all of them?
- Paganism is largely spread, and although some do not follow deities, a lot do. These include Norse, celtic, Slavic, Egyptian, Greek, Roman and many more. Our beliefs and practice bring a deep connection to nature, it teaches us important ancient knowledge, and brings with it, the freedom of expression and access to psychological empowerment (which is greatly needed with the rise in mental health struggles). Pagan communities are all around the world, and it's sad that in modern society, we are still being shunned. We need all UK schools to accept Paganism as part of the religious education system, as our children matter too. Please sign this petition so that we can let our children make their own choices, and not feel like they don't belong anymore.
