The Issue

Every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon, the Parsippany Senior Center echoes with the gentle hum of chatter, laughter, and the flurry of cards being shuffled. Bridge players gather from various corners of our vibrant community to partake in this strategic and social pastime. However, we are facing a pressing challenge that limits our cherished games: a dwindling number of bridge players.

I'm passionate about this issue because, like many of my peers, bridge is more than just a game; it is our avenue for social connection, mental stimulation, and pure joy in retirement. Playing bridge with friends nurtures our minds and souls, but without enough players, our clubs risk fading away.

We believe the solution lies just beyond the borders of Parsippany. By extending an invitation to senior citizens from neighboring townships to join our bridge sessions for a modest fee, we can revitalize our afternoons and enrich our community spirit. Many seniors in nearby townships do not have access to a dedicated center where they can enjoy such games, making this an opportunity for mutual benefit—a true win/win!

However, current regulations restrict non-residents from accessing the Parsippany Senior Center activities. We urge the local authorities to revise these regulations or establish an inclusive policy that allows seniors from surrounding townships to participate for a nominal fee. This change will not only foster community integration but also ensure the sustainability of our beloved bridge sessions.

Supporting this petition means endorsing community togetherness, inclusive recreation, and the mental wellness of senior citizens across our region. Let us not limit the joys of connection and camaraderie to geographic boundaries.

We invite all residents and community-minded individuals to sign this petition and advocate for a policy change that embraces seniors from neighboring towns. Together, we can ensure our afternoons remain vibrant with the shared joy of playing bridge.
