In 2019, my family and I made Maumee our home. My kids, like any others, found comfort and stability in the Maumee City Schools. For years, they've walked the familiar halls, formed friendships, and received unwavering support from teachers and peers alike. All this changed after a devastating fire in 2023, which forced us out of our home and left us in a situation termed 'homeless'.

Despite the challenges we faced, the sense of community within the Maumee City Schools continued to provide much-needed stability for my children. However, in the school year of 2025-2026, we were informed that our homelessness situation had technically resolved, necessitating an open enrollment application. Despite our efforts to comply, this request was denied.

My children only know Maumee as their educational environment. Their friends, teachers, and entire support network are within this community. For neurodivergent children like mine, such stability is crucial. The prospect of leaving such a supportive environment not only threatens their academic progress but deeply affects their emotional well-being as well.

The decision to deny their continued enrollment disregards the emotional and developmental impacts such a displacement would cause. My plea is simple: let my children continue to attend the schools and community they have grown to love and depend on for stability.

Allowing them to stay isn't just about convenience; it's about preserving their sense of belonging and identity during such formative years. Maumee City Schools have been our sanctuary during uncertainty, and pulling my children away now would only further destabilize their lives.
