Allow More Pokémon Job Locations and Opportunities
The Issue
Pokémon is one of the best media franchises around and it would be a great opportunity to have a career with that franchise. Unfortunately, it is not always the case with some people, including me.
For starters, the work locations are limited with three locations: Washington, Dublin, and London. If any potential workers do not reside in these preferred locations, The Pokémon Company will not likely hire them. On the Pokémon LinkedIn page, I noticed many people from various locations worldwide desperately wanting to work for that company ranging from California, Toronto, Australia, India, Brazil, Mexico, and Italy. Another issue is that the company does not offer remote work, which a missed opportunity for people who want to work at home.
It is possible that The Pokémon Company might be bias on who to choose to work despite its claims that it supports diversity and inclusion. There are companies who claim they support diversity and inclusion, but never truly live up to that promise.
Since many of the various Pokémon characters evolve to get stronger with experience, The Pokémon Company itself should also evolve with new opportunities and open minds. Increasing its scope to global will also be a very professional strategy to reach out to more potential candidates it can hire. Since this year is the franchise’s 30th anniversary, this would be the perfect opportunity for new changes to happen.
One requirement the franchise must ensure is have entry-level work be an option. It should also allow more locations worldwide, especially the areas that the Pokémon regions are based on, like New York City (the inspiration for Unova), France (the inspiration for Kalos), and Hawaii (the inspiration for Alola). It should also include locations where the playable languages from its games are being spoken, like Brazil. (The upcoming Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves will be the first core series game with a Brazilian Portuguese translation.)
Another requirement the franchise must ensure would be to have more job options to choose from based on the skills of potential candidates, especially those who are graphic designers. When it comes to graphic design, there are lots of talented people who create and/or brainstorm fan made Pokémon, regions, gym leaders and badges, and more. There are some cases where the fan artwork is more superior than the official artwork.
Some examples of talented fan made Pokémon artists and brainstormers include:
- artworks218_
- maumesdex
- fakemanss
- gabrielcasadosmeargle
- luis.brain
- tubz_az
- mykemon_regions
- trainer_matz
- championmoab
One more requirement is for the franchise to truly be diverse and inclusive to all people, especially those who have disabilities or are neurodivergent. Satoshi Tajiri, the creator of the Pokémon franchise, is believed to have autism. In that case, the franchise should see how skilled those potential candidates are and to understand the power that’s inside.
We to let The Pokémon Company know that it’s high time that it starts becoming more open to new opportunities to allow more people to catch a career.
