Allow MO State Auditor to audit Jackson County over 2023 Assessments

The Issue

You there! Resident of Jackson County!

The county of Jackson County, Missouri has contracted Tyler Technologies for the 2023 calendar year to assess homes and properties in Jackson County, Missouri. What does this mean for you?

Tyler Technologies is a Texas-based entity, which means they are an out of state entity. Any attempts to reach out to them regarding how they came up with the values, what was used and to request documents have fell on deaf ears. Residents have seen an increase to their homes from 20% to 100% or even more. This has caused stress and panic to the citizens of Jackson County.

Jackson County commented that we can appeal but not everyone can appeal because the residents work. Not everyone can take time off their careers and so many people have appealed that it’s caused a backlog. People who have successfully appealed have seen their homes re-assessed and decreased, which tells the citizen that Jackson County got it WRONG. Even then, the amount of hours it takes for residents to gather evidence to appeal is no easy task. It is not our job to prove you are not doing your job correctly.

Jackson County stated they have a law that requires homes to “meet fair market value” but have declined to say why choose this year to increase people’s homes 20%-100%(or more) and increase it incorrectly since citizens have appealed and won. The local Legislature is not doing anything. So the State Auditor is the only one who can act, but he can only perform an audit and give us answers if enough citizens petition.  SOURCE

We need to have the MO State Auditor audit Jackson County so they can tell us what was done behind the scenes for these incorrect property assessments.

We cannot let the Assessments office get away with this and just let them sweep this under the rug. We as citizens are frustrated and want something done but don’t know how - well here is the solution! The Missouri State Auditor CAN audit Jackson County but they can’t perform it unless we get enough signatures and hand this to the State Auditors office. The burden falls on us residents because Frank White refuses to do anything and the Assessment Office supports whatever Frank White decides.

We must hold them accountable for our questions because we elect these representatives and if they can't answer us honestly and truthfully, then we must act ourselves. If you don't petition then you lose your voice and Jackson County will sweep this under the rug.

You matter and so does your voice!
