As a lifelong resident of the Wiregrass area, I am deeply concerned about the recent changes to our annual Peanut Festival/Fair that now prohibits law-abiding citizens from carrying concealed weapons. This restriction not only infringes on our 2nd Amendment rights but also potentially compromises the safety of our community. Criminals do not obey these laws; they are deterred by the presence of law-abiding citizens who can protect themselves and others.

According to a study by the Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC), concealed carry permit holders are some of the most law-abiding citizens in America. The same research indicates that states with higher rates of concealed carry have lower crime rates. Yet, despite these facts, we are being prevented from exercising this right at the National Peanut Festival this year. 

I believe it is crucial for us to uphold and respect our constitutional rights while ensuring public safety. Therefore, I urge you to reconsider this policy and allow lawful carrying of weapons at open-air public events such as our beloved Peanut Festival/Fair.
