Allow Korean Sunscreens to be sold in the US again for the protection of Americans

The Issue

29 YEARS (since 1996) it’s been since the filters in US sunscreens have been evaluated and updated. Which means our sunscreens are not as effective as Korean sunscreen’s advanced filters and technology when it comes to protecting our skin. Ask any board certified dermatologist. In 2025, Korean sunscreens have started to be removed from US access online due to the US being behind in advancement in protective filters used in Korean sunscreens

I  am writing as a concerned consumer regarding the current U.S. regulatory restrictions on sunscreen products that have effectively barred the import and sale of many high-quality Korean sunscreens. I understand that these regulations are intended to ensure safety; however, it appears that in doing so, they have inadvertently limited American consumers’ access to effective and innovative sun protection options that are widely used and trusted abroad.

Korean sunscreen products are renowned for their advanced formulations and have received positive reviews for both their efficacy and skin-friendly properties. Many consumers, myself included, believe that these products offer excellent protection against the harmful effects of UV radiation while meeting rigorous safety standards. In contrast, the current regulatory approach in the United States seems to delay or prevent the introduction of these products, potentially compromising public health by limiting consumer choice and the availability of effective sun protection.

It is respectfully requested that the FDA reexamine the current criteria and testing protocols for sunscreen products, particularly those developed and validated in international markets. A thorough review and, if appropriate, an update to these regulations could help ensure that safe, innovative products are available to American consumers. I believe that a balanced, science-based review of the available safety data from Korean manufacturers would serve the public interest and enhance consumer protection by expanding the range of effective sunscreen options.

Again, US filters in US sunscreens are far behind in their abilities to protect us from the harmful sun rays. It has been 29 years since the filters in US sunscreens have been evaluated and update.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. It would be beneficial for a response to this concern and to learn how the FDA plans to address these concerns.
