Throughout my senior year at Lamar High School, I’ve worked really hard to stay focused on my grades and grow as a person, just like everyone else in the Class of '26. One of the things that kept many of us motivated was looking forward to the senior trip. It felt like the one big tradition we’d all get to share before graduating. Hearing that it’s been canceled has honestly been really disappointing and upsetting for a lot of us.

The senior trip isn’t just some random fun day. It’s something we’ve looked forward to as a way to celebrate finishing high school together. It’s a chance to bond, relax after everything we’ve been through, and make memories before we all go our separate ways. Some of us, including me, missed out on other senior events because of jobs, family responsibilities, sports, or other commitments. The senior trip was the one thing we were counting on as a final moment together.

The trip is scheduled for after finals, so it wouldn’t affect our academics at all. On top of that, many seniors already paid their senior dues, knowing that money was going toward this trip. Canceling it now feels unfair to students who paid and trusted that this experience would happen.

We’re asking the Houston Independent School District to please reconsider this decision. We’ve worked hard for four years, and this trip is something meaningful to us. Bringing it back would show that our effort and commitment matter.
