Allow Gum Chewing in Buckeye, AZ Elementary Schools

The Issue

As a resident of Buckeye, AZ, I have personally experienced the benefits of gum chewing. It has been scientifically proven to enhance focus and concentration in class. Unfortunately, our current school policies do not allow this simple yet effective tool for learning enhancement.

Research from St. Lawrence University shows that students who chew gum during tests perform 26% better than those who don't (St. Lawrence University Study, 2011). This is because chewing stimulates brain activity and increases blood flow to the brain.

In addition to improving academic performance, gum chewing also promotes oral health by increasing saliva production which helps neutralize and wash away harmful acids produced when food is broken down by the bacteria in plaque on teeth (American Dental Association).

Once when i was a little boy, I got caught by a teacher, and was told not to chew gum in school, which they proceeded to give me a refinement, which is not good, it made me really sad, so i think we should stand up for one another, and make a change!

It's time we reconsider our stance on this issue for the benefit of our children's education and health. Let's make a change in Buckeye elementary schools by allowing gum chewing during class hours.
