The Issue

Many larger food banks in Canada are denying their smaller partnered food pantries permission to use XP Eats (www.xpeats.com a food bank delivery service, to ensure vulnerable clients receive the support they desperately need. I have seen firsthand how essential food banks and pantries are for so many people in our communities.

The XP Eats platform is an innovative solution that offers a reliable delivery system for food pantries. It allows local drivers to deliver food boxes to those who cannot physically visit food pantries due to disability, illness, or restrictive life circumstances. Sadly, without authorization from food banks to use this platform, countless families and individuals may miss out on necessary food aid. This policy gap has left smaller food pantries battling logistics that could otherwise be streamlined, economical, and far more effective through XP Eats (www.xpeats.com The company provides the first delivery for free; in the majority of cases, the cost to food pantry users is cheaper than bus fare, and much less than other taxi and ride share services that some food pantry users resort to using.

Allowing all food pantries in Canada to authorize customers to use a signed proxy, so XP Eats can deliver on their behalf, is a workable solution. It aligns with the mission to reduce hunger and ensure equality in food distribution. Many local food banks are already overwhelmed, and granting access to this platform helps alleviate pressure while maximizing their reach and impact.

Moreover, statistics show that food insecurity in Canada affects nearly 1 in 8 households, which translates into 4.4 million Canadians, including 1.2 million children, living without reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food. XP Eats could bridge the gap for many in these statistics by extending a necessary lifeline.

We call upon larger food banks, regional coordinators, and decision-makers who oversee food distribution services in Canada to reconsider current policies and extend permission for the use of XP Eats among all affiliated food pantries. This is not just about facilitating better service; it’s about ensuring dignity and sustenance for every Canadian in need.

Sign this petition to demand that practical, innovative delivery options like XP Eats become available to every food pantry across Canada, thereby helping to fight food insecurity more effectively.
