Allow dogs off-lead in Queen's Park Golf Course (7.30-9.30am Trial Period)

The Issue

We’re asking the local council and the City of London Corporation to approve a 6-month trial allowing responsible off-lead dog exercise on Queen’s Park Golf Course between 7 and 9 a.m. each day — before golf begins. This would create a safe, shared space that benefits both dog owners and the wider community

Queen’s Park is one of our community’s most loved green spaces. Many local residents walk their dogs here daily — but current restrictions mean they can’t safely let their dogs run and play in the open areas of the golf course, even when it’s unused in the early morning.

We’re asking the Council to allow a 6-month trial during which dogs can be off-lead from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. daily on the Queen’s Park Golf Course.

This time frame is before regular golfing hours, meaning no disruption to players or maintenance teams. It would simply allow responsible dog owners to exercise their pets safely and enjoyably while maintaining full control and cleaning up after them.

Benefits of this proposal:

Encourages outdoor activity and wellbeing for residents and pets.
Makes use of park space at quiet, early hours.
Builds a stronger community connection between local dog owners and the Council.
Allows data collection during the trial to assess impact before any permanent changes.
We believe this is a fair, balanced approach — giving everyone the chance to share Queen’s Park respectfully and responsibly.

As a devoted dog owner and outdoor enthusiast living in London, I've always relished the joy and freedom that open spaces bring to both humans and their four-legged companions. Queen's Park is a beloved local gem for many residents like myself, especially the expansive golf course area, which serves as a wonderful playground for our dogs to run, explore, and socialise.

Unfortunately, at the moment, dogs must be kept on a lead on the golf course, which significantly limits their ability and the owners' to roam free and enjoy the full benefits of this magnificent area. Allowing dogs to be off-lead between the hours of 7 am and 9 am on a trial basis would not only enhance their physical and mental well-being but also promote a greater sense of community among local dog owners.

According to a study by the University of Lincoln, exercising dogs off-lead contributes considerably to their health and reduces behavioural issues, making them happier and more sociable pets.

By permitting off-lead hours early in the morning, we can ensure that golfers and other park users are not disrupted, as these hours are typically quieter. Dog owners in the area are responsible and committed to maintaining the natural beauty and cleanliness of Queen's Park, and many of us are willing to collaborate with park authorities to ensure the trial period is peaceful and successful.

We kindly ask the local council to consider this proposal to improve the quality of life for dogs and dog owners in London. Implementing the trial will undoubtedly bring more joy to our community and set a precedent for harmonious use of public spaces.

Please join me in signing this petition to allow dogs to roam free off-lead in Queen's Park Golf Course from 7 am to 9 am, ensuring our pets and the park thrive together.
