The Issue

As an allotment plot holder at Townfarm Allotment Site, just off Cargo Fleet Lane in Middlesbrough, I have invested a significant amount of time and effort to create a nurturing and peaceful environment on my plot. This space has been transformational for me, serving as a form of therapy for my depression and anxiety. It is my sanctuary, my safe place, and my mental health stability zone.

Recently, I've been informed by the council that my shed is deemed too large, and that the number of greenhouses violates the site regulations. These structures have been in place since last year without any issues or complaints, and I am saddened and stressed by this sudden change in stance from the authorities.

Allotment gardening provides immense benefits not only for individual well-being but also for the community at large by promoting sustainable living, community spirit, and mental health recovery. The existing structures on my plot enhance my productivity and enable me to maintain this therapeutic space effectively.

I kindly urge the council to reconsider their decision and make allowances for those of us who find solace and healing in our allotment plots. Perhaps, instead of strict adherence to rules that might not fit every unique situation, a review process could be implemented to judge cases individually based on merits and contributions to personal and community welfare.

Please sign this petition to support not just my case, but the broader rights of allotment holders to preserve their healing spaces. Working together, we can create a balanced approach that respects both the rules and the crucial role these plots play in mental health and community building.
