For the past five years, my family and I have been fortunate enough to raise chickens in our backyard. These feathered friends have not only brought immense joy and companionship into our lives but have also served as valuable educational tools for our three children. However, after 2 years of being in New Chicago, In we recently discovered that there is a town ordinance against keeping chickens, which now threatens us with fines.

This issue is deeply personal to me because I have witnessed first hand the positive impact these chickens have had on my family's life. They are not just pets; they are cherished members of our household who provide us with fresh eggs and teach us about responsibility, sustainability, and compassion towards animals.

Our children have learned invaluable lessons from their interactions with these intelligent creatures. They witness the miracle of life through observing hatching chicks; they learn about biology by studying their anatomy; they understand the importance of nurturing by taking care of them daily. Moreover, having chickens has sparked an interest in gardening as we utilize their waste as natural fertilizer for our backyard plants.

It is disheartening to think that all these wonderful experiences might be taken away from us due to an outdated town ordinance that fails to recognize the numerous benefits of allowing responsible chicken ownership within city limits.

To support this petition further, let's consider some relevant facts:
