Allow all unrestricted sexual assault cases to go to court martial

The Issue

I have experienced first-hand the grave injustice that occurs when sexual assault cases in the military are mishandled. In the past year, I was raped by three military personnel. Despite my efforts to seek justice, my last case—where I was assaulted by two individuals—was completely disregarded. There was no court martial, no non-judicial punishment, and no repercussions. I received no justice, and now I live in fear that these individuals may harm someone else.

This petition demands immediate changes in how unrestricted sexual assault cases are handled within the military. Current processes allow too many cases to slip through the cracks, leaving victims like me in silence and assaulters free to roam without consequence. By mandating that all unrestricted sexual assault cases go directly to court martial, we can ensure that every voice is heard, and every accusation is met with the seriousness it deserves.

Moreover, for restricted cases, there must be enhanced protections and services for victims. These cases need a robust support system that guarantees both safety and justice, leaving no room for perpetrators to escape accountability. According to the Department of Defense, over 7,800 reports of sexual assault were filed in the military in recent years, yet this figure may only scratch the surface as many choose not to report due to fear of retaliation or dismissal.

By reforming military protocols, we are not only advocating for justice but are also creating a safer environment for all service members. No one should have to endure what I and countless others have faced. Let's protect each other by not letting the perpetrators walk free and endanger others.

I call upon the Department of Defense and military leadership to take immediate and decisive action. This is about more than policy—it's about human dignity, justice, and the safety of every individual serving our country.
