As many as 1 in 6 teachers in the UK are subjected to accusations by pupils during their careers.

Schoolteachers are vulnerable to unfounded allegations from pupils when enforcing behaviour rules in the classroom, schools and education authorities cannot protect staff and offer more support, especially when a teacher is on their own in the classroom without any other adult or CCTV present.

According to teaching unions, there has been a sustained increase in assaults and allegations against school staff which cause unnecessary stress to those involved. In most cases teachers could quickly exonerate themselves from any wrongdoing by surrendering footage to school management.

In the UK, many public servants use body cameras, including police officers, security guards, prison officers, emergency response workers, council officials, train guards, traffic and parking wardens, and construction workers can also use body cameras.

Research has shown that body-worn cameras can help improve public perceptions of public sector employees.

I believe that body-worn cameras could help prevent the type of behaviour that happens in our schools. Body cameras can create greater transparency and accountability and protect the staff who work in them at the same time.
