My son was born on 14th June 2024, and I am devastated to learn that he won't be able to start nursery in March 2027, merely because he falls short of the eligibility by just 2.5 months. This small discrepancy is causing a huge disruption in our family's education plans and future preparation.

This inconsistency is not just a personal issue but a systemic one that affects many families across Haryana. While states like Karnataka have shown understanding and flexibility by allowing a 90-day relaxation in the age criteria for school admissions, Haryana remains rigid. Additionally, schools in Rajasthan have recognized the capability of five-year-olds to commence Class 1, offering them the opportunity to progress at a pace suitable for their personal development. Why then should Haryana's children be deprived of such flexibility and opportunity?

The age criteria disparity leads to unfair educational advantages and disadvantages based solely on geographical location. Every child deserves equal opportunities irrespective of the state they belong to. The Government of India has consistently advocated for uniform education policies. Hence, there should not be such sharp contrasts in age-related policies among different states.

Urging the Haryana government to adopt a more flexible and inclusive approach, similar to Karnataka's, will enhance educational fairness and equality. It is crucial that we provide all children with an equal chance to start their academic journey without unnecessary and arbitrary barriers.

We call upon the government and educational authorities to reconsider and relax the age criteria for school admissions in Haryana. Implementing a consistent policy across the nation would ensure that no child is disadvantaged due to minor age differences. By doing so, we will be making a significant step towards educational equity and justice for all.
