The Issue

I am a student in McKinney, Texas, and I believe that the current restriction on accessing YouTube from our school computers is oppressive. YouTube is not just a platform for entertainment; it's also an invaluable educational resource with millions of tutorial videos and lectures from renowned institutions. According to a study by Pearson Education, 59% of Gen Z prefers learning through YouTube compared to textbooks (Pearson Education, 2018). Despite this fact, our school district has blocked access to this resource.

This decision severely limits our ability to supplement classroom learning with additional resources and inhibits the development of self-directed learning skills. It's time for us to adapt our policies according to the evolving educational landscape.

We urge the McKinney Independent School District Board of Trustees and Superintendent Dr. Shawn Pratt to reconsider their stance on this issue. Let's embrace technology as an ally in education rather than viewing it as a threat.

Please sign this petition if you believe in providing students with all available resources for their education.
