Across the United States, the human powered ski market is the fastest growing segment in the industry. Compounded with the ongoing pandemic which is limiting lift capacity and closing gyms, there is huge demand for skiers to forgo the lifts, get a bit of cardio, and earn their turns. 

By allowing for well-managed uphill travel at Purgatory, we can provide a safe and enjoyable space for uphill skiers to access the mountain and partake in this growing segment of the snowsports world, while also creating a new way for Purgatory to attract customers who will contribute to the resort through uphill passes, concessions, and lodgings.

There is a huge number of skiers in the region who would gladly take advantage of this opportunity to avoid high avalanche risk days in the backcountry (particularly in this exceptionally fatal season), test out new gear, and get their fitness in top form. By showing our community's support for this change, we can provide new opportunities for our community and our local ski area.
